Young Professionals Program Features

  1. Training: The YPP includes a well-designed development curriculum that focuses on building foundational knowledge about the WBG, developing essential skills such as collaboration, leadership, integrative thinking, and innovation, and fostering a culture of continuous learning. The training activities include onboarding, e-learning, cohort discussions with WBG leaders, leadership training, career development conversations, and networking opportunities.
  2. Professional Experience: Young Professionals are expected to contribute significantly to their unit’s work program while gaining a broad understanding of the WBG’s policies and operations. They have the opportunity to undertake a business-driven rotational “stretch/exposure” assignment that provides valuable on-the-job experience aligned with their interests and the unit’s needs.
  3. Field Work: Young Professionals in the Operations stream may join colleagues on field business trips, also known as “missions,” in developing countries. These missions offer firsthand exposure to the challenges of global development, allow YPs to understand key aspects of the WBG’s work, and provide opportunities to interact with WBG clients.
  4. Coaching and Mentoring: The YPP provides various mentoring and coaching opportunities to support the professional growth and development of Young Professionals. These include:
  • YP Buddy: Before joining the program, Young Professionals are assigned a YP buddy from the previous year’s group. YP buddies help new recruits settle into the organization, understand program expectations and challenges, and provide support.
  • Technical Buddy: In their hiring units, Young Professionals are assigned an experienced colleague as a “go-to person” to answer technical questions related to their field of expertise.
  • WBG Mentor: Once settled into their jobs, Young Professionals can be paired with a senior colleague who serves as a mentor. The mentor provides guidance on career options, “stretch/exposure” assignment opportunities, and helps Young Professionals gain insight into the organizational culture.
  • Youth Program Team: The Youth Program Team is dedicated to recruiting and integrating Young Professionals into the WBG. They coordinate activities, provide mentoring and guidance, assist with career strategies, and serve as a resource for Young Professionals seeking support and guidance.
